It is simple beyond simple to make. The ingredients are few. The equipment is minimal (no mixer necessary). And the results are nothing short of fabulous.
This is a cake with a tender crumb, a definite vanilla edge, and the slight nutty flavor of the brown butter.
Doris suggests that you serve it the day after you make it to let the flavors meld. If you can hold out that long, I recommend it as well.
Or, if you're like The Boy, you just snag a bite before I can even finish my photograph.
This is a simple cake that lends itself to lots of different toppings. It's the perfect base for fruit, chocolate ganache, whipped cream (all of the above), and if you let it get stale, it's delicious toasted with a small spread of butter.
This cake was really good - not surprised The Boy couldn't wait to eat it.
ReplyDeleteI loved this cake and so did my family. I made it on Saturday and wrapped it in a towel to let it sit over night. By Sunday afternoon when everyone was back from skiing the cake was then half devoured. On Monday my oldest asked coming home from school about the cake and her sister sheepishly told her it was gone.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll make it again.
It looks like it was a thumbs up in your home too.
There was no way this was going to sit around a whole day in my house :-)This was good...
ReplyDeleteYep, Boys are like that, snatching things the moment they hit the counter top...I have experience in this phenomenon as well. Really, what's not to love about a totally delicious cake without hauling out all the heavy equipment? Yours looks wonderful, particularly that piece that has been road tested. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I didn't have any remaining the next day. Must make again! It's such a simple cake and yet so delicious. - mary
ReplyDeleteThis cake is definitely going into my “go to” file! Loved the simplicity and the fabulous flavor! Glad this was a winner in your house! I love the piece with the bite…The boy is smart!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely cake, though it took me two tries to get it right! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it with cups of warm tea!
This was a simple cake to make, but the flavors
ReplyDeleteof the brown butter and vanilla bean made it
something special. Definitely a repeat.
Your cake looks beautiful with all the vanilla flecks! I ate the last piece today with some butter and it was still delicious at day 3. No toasting required!
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks wonderful. I agree that it was good for the little amount of effort in making it.
ReplyDeleteI loved that it was so easy too! My tasters all agreed it was perfect just plain…which is super easy!
ReplyDeleteIt was easy, wasn't it? I was quite surprised that I didn't need my mixer. (And it looks like your boy has good taste!)
ReplyDeleteHaving this toasted fro breakfast with butter and jam this morning! It's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteThis was a great one! I keep thinking it will make a great base for strawberry shortcake in the summer with macerated strawberries and whipped cream.
ReplyDeleteThis was SO good! One I'm going to make again and again. Luckily, my partner has celiac disease, so there was no snagging pieces before the overnight rest. Of course, that meant I had to force myself to share it with people outside the home. I was really tempted to eat it all by myself.
ReplyDeleteI ended up making this twice it was such a hit. I have no idea how someone could make it 24 hours before snagging a piece.
