TWD: Classic Brownies

I needed a dessert for an event this weekend. Since brownies are one of the most popular sweets around, I thought it was excellent timing.

This is a simple brownie. I love a recipe that uses melted butter, so when I get home at 9:00 on a Friday night and need to bake, it's much easier. This has unsweetened and bittersweet chocolate as part of the batter. The amount of sugar added is very low. It also has a scant amount of flour. I am not a fan of walnuts in general or nuts at all in my brownies. Instead, I substituted some white chocolate and milk chocolate chips. I liked the idea of the visual, and I thought the sweetness would counter the richness of the batter well.

These were tricky to take out of the pan because they were SO moist. I will admit to having to eat some evidence of imperfect squares. These were a huge hit. People at the BBQ who were "stuffed to the gills" managed to put away a couple of brownies. This recipe just might replace the Ghirardelli mix that I keep in my cabinet.

Thanks Anne of Anne Strawberry for the pick!

When in doubt, "eat the evidence". Wise move! Glad these were enjoyed.

I like the idea of white chocolate. Sounds like you made a winner.

I agre with you 100% on the melted butter. That makes life SO much easier. Nothing worse than having to wait for room temp butter!

Oh my! You have my plate! Those have been my 'everyday' dishes for years. I lined my pan with nonstick foil which made it easy to lift the whole brownie hunk out before cutting it into pieces.

Oooh white chocolate and chocolate chips sound even better than the nuts- your brownies look perfect!

I ate a lot of the evidence.

These were a delicious brownie. And I am all for "eating the evidence" as well!

They look fabulous and definitely a treat I'd love to see at a BBQ! :)

Mmm! Up late at night looking at posts makes me wish I had a brownie right now!
Line the pan with foil so the edges hang over, spray, and never have anything stick or be hard to remove again. ;)

Hi Julie, Your brownies look great.
Perhaps you can help me. I bake most every week and LYL. However, my comment never appears. Laurie says they go to the spam folder. Do you have any ideas on this? When I comment during the week of baking, I am fine - just the LYL. Thanks a bunch. It gets discouraging when other TWD bakers do not know I participated.

Thanks for trying to disguise those with that powdered sugar dusting, it almost worked, but I know there is chocolate lurking under there, lots and lots of chocolate!
